Orphan Trains Author to Speak Saturday, April 18

Marilyn Holt, author of The Orphan Trains:  Placing Out in America will speak at 2:00 on Saturday, April 18.  She discusses the “orphan trains” which brought poor children from the eastern cities to rural Kansas from 1867 until the 1920s. She relates firsthand accounts of orphan train riders which challenge our picture of childhood in the “good old days.”

Lunch @ the Library

Ashland Library patrons enjoyed good food, good company and great music by violinist Judith Priest on March 9.  The luncheon was so enjoyable that it has been decided to have a library tea on May 18.  Anyone wanting to help host the tea is urged to contact Cara or Khrista at 620-635-2589.
