Cowboy Coffee Luncheon

Monday, September 14 at 12:00 noon, the Ashland Library will host a Cowboy Coffee Luncheon.  A western themed lunch is planned, with a special chili made of locally smoked meats, cornbread, and peach cobbler made in a Dutch oven over a slow fire.  An amusing program by Cowboy Poet Marti Sheetz is planned, with guitar backup by Don Bryant of Coldwater.  A donation of $5 is suggested to help cover costs.

Picturing the Dustbowl

Kate Meyer, of the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas, presented Picturing the Dust Bowl September 1 at the Ashland Library. This presentation used paintings, photographs, and prints of the Dust Bowl as a way to explore early 20th century American attitudes toward nature and the environment, but also to provide clues about the changing expectations for the future.    Sponsored locally by the 20th Century Club, this program was provided by the Kansas Humanities Council.

Have Fun With Your Horse

Dr. Loretha Ann Page will start the Summer Reading programs June 10 at 10:00 am with a fun session based on her book, Learning to Have Fun with Your Horse Without Getting Hurt.  Sadie, Khrista Branson’s mare, will be on hand for demonstration purposes, although rides cannot be given at this time.
