The Ashland Library Receives a Kansas Humanities Council Heritage Grant

The Ashland City Library received a KHC Heritage Grant for “The 2017 Starbuck Fire and its Effect on the People of Clark County,” an oral history project to transcribe and preserve the stories of firefighters, evacuees, farmers, ranchers, and survivors of Kansas’ largest grassland fire.

Photo by of the Starbuck Fire by Denise Cleckler.   Cleckler’s husband is employed by David Clawson, a local rancher who is also president of the Kansas Livestock Association. This is his tractor being used to protect his house. The tractor later got stuck and burned.
